Cookies policy

1. What cookies are

Cookies are small text files that a website — moldovanuts.org included — keeps in your browser. They let the site recognise your browser on a later visit, for example to remember the language you chose or to keep you signed in to the members' area, and in some cases to measure how the site is used.

Their use is governed by Law no. 284/2004 on electronic commerce, and where cookies process personal data, Law no. 195/2024 on the protection of personal data applies as well. How we process data is described in our GDPR Policy.

2. The rule we follow

Cookies strictly necessary for the site to work are set without your consent, because without them the site cannot function. Every other cookie is set only after you have consented to its category in the banner shown on your first visit. Until then no measurement or advertising tool is loaded at all.

3. The categories we use

Strictly necessary — without them the site does not work, and consent is not required:

  • anrmmd-session — identifies your browsing session; expires when the session ends;
  • XSRF-TOKEN — protects forms against submissions forged from other sites;
  • sc_cookie_consent — remembers your cookie choice so we do not ask again on every page; kept for 1 year.

If you hold a member account and sign in, two more cookies may appear, strictly necessary as well, because without them the function you asked for cannot be delivered:

  • the "remember me" cookie — set only if you tick that option when signing in, and keeps you signed in between visits;
  • sc_trusted_device — marks the browser as trusted, if you asked for that during two-step verification, so the code is not requested at every sign-in.

Preferences — they remember the options you chose, so you find the site as you left it:

  • sc_lang — the language you read the site in;
  • sc_country, sc_currency, sc_date_format, sc_time_format, sc_datetime_format, sc_date_timezone, sc_first_week_day — the country, the currency and the format your dates are shown in.

These cookies are kept for at most 1 year and do not follow your activity outside this site.

Measurement — shows us, in aggregate form, which pages are read and where visitors come from. Advertising — would allow campaigns to be measured and relevant adverts to be shown. Tag management — would load those tools through a tag manager. Social networks — would allow embedded content from social networks.

At the date this page was last updated we use a single tool from those four categories: Google Analytics 4. It belongs to Measurement and, like any tool that is not strictly necessary, it is not loaded at all until you accept that category — until then your browser sends no request to Google.

Once you accept Measurement, your browser downloads the measurement script (gtag.js) from googletagmanager.com, which means Google receives your IP address and browser type, and the tool may set its own _ga and _ga_<ID> cookies. These are kept for up to 2 years and serve to tell visits apart. They contain neither your name, nor your e-mail address, nor your telephone number.

Google Analytics processes the data on Google's infrastructure, outside the Republic of Moldova; the conditions of that processing are described in the GDPR Policy. Advertising, Tag management and Social networks remain unused; should we enable either, it will likewise load only after your consent, and this page will be updated.

4. What we record without cookies

If you arrive from a campaign — that is, the address you enter through carries parameters such as utm_source, utm_campaign, gclid or fbclid — we record that source, the page you landed on, the address you came from, the IP address and the identifier of the current session. This is recorded on the server, not through an advertising cookie, and serves solely to know which channel brings visitors to the site. If the address carries no such parameters, nothing is recorded.

5. How you give and change your choice

On your first visit the cookie banner lets you accept everything, refuse everything that is not strictly necessary, or choose the categories one by one. You can change your choice at any time by opening the cookie preferences again from the footer of the site.

To evidence consent, we keep alongside your decision the IP address, the browser type and the date of the decision, for 1 year.

6. How to delete cookies from your browser

Every browser allows cookies already set to be deleted and future ones blocked, from its own settings — usually under "Privacy" or "Browsing data". Deleting the cookie that remembers your consent makes the banner appear again on your next visit.

7. What happens if you refuse

The site remains fully usable: you can read every page, send us a message through the form and sign in to the members' area. We will not remember the language you chose or your other preferences, so some options will return to their defaults on each visit.

8. Changes to this policy

We update this page whenever the cookies in use change. The applicable version is the one published here, with the date of the last update shown at the top.
